Christie was invited some years ago to come and coach St. John’s choir. Since then, she has fallen in love – not only with the wonderful people in the choir, but also with her fellow parishioners, clergy and the church. Christie’s family has long been involved in the Anglican church in North Vancouver and in Vancouver, beginning with her grandfather Alick Trendell, who was the minister at St. John’s Shaughnessy in the mid-1900s.
Music has always been an integral part of Christie’s family, which gave her a true appreciation of the joy in sharing music. Christie is a piano, ukulele and singing teacher who works with humour, fun and most of all, for the love of the music. Christie and Galina have a wonderful chemistry and friendship and together they choose beautiful music from all genres that both challenge the choir and resonate with them.
In addition to teaching and directing the St. John's choirs, Christie works at Long & McQuade Music coordinating workshops and events with visiting musicians and educators and is currently serving as President of the International Print Music Association (RPMDA). Christie is a composer, and professional singer/songwriter and even does a little belly dancing from time to time!
