The Altar Guild

An Important Part Of Our Worship

Altar Guilds, as known to the Anglican Church, did not become a formalized body until the nineteenth century. However the history of its development goes back to the time of the apostles. In the early days of the Church, followers of Christ gathered in private homes to break bread together and to share their memories of Him.

The primary job of the Altar Guild is to literally set the altar for the Eucharistic Feast or what we call Communion.  There are also what is called liturgical colours related to the seasons of the church year.  The Altar Guild adorns the altar and lecterns accordingly.  They also help decorate the church on special services like Remembrance Sunday and Christmas and Easter.

If you think you might like to help the church out in this kind of ministry please do let Patrick (priest.sjnv@telus.net) or the office know.  604-986-1151
