We were very honoured to once again have Bishop Melissa visit us this year. This past Sunday, Advent Three, Bishop Melissa presided and preached at our regular 10:00am service. We will be posting her sermon shortly. During the service the bishop was able to award Allison Mulligan the Order of the Diocese of New Westminster, as Allison was unable to attend the award ceremony in November. The Bishop also blessed serval prayer shawls and, on behalf of the Contemplative Groups here at St John's, was given the gift of an Anglican rosary made of B.C jade. It was a wonderful and moving service.
Bishop Melissa then joined us after the service for a conversation on what Advent means to her. She talked about the importance of the darkness of the season and the light of new hope that Advent brings. We then had a question and answer period. In answering the question of what she has enjoyed the most about being a Bishop so far, Bishop Melissa said she really loves the diversity of the congregations found here in the Diocese of New Westminster. The Bishop then joined Church Council for a meeting in which we talked about congregational development.
It was very special having the bishop here and we will have fond memories to ponder for some time to come. Thank you Bishop Melissa!
